It is 1944 and the Allies are preparing for the invasion of Europe. En français car prêté par un voisin. Cela faisait longtemps que je n'avais pas été captivée par une lecture de cette façon. Pas moyen de poser le livre pour faire autre chose: les personnages et l'intrigue ne vous lâchent plus. Nous sommes à la fin de la seconde guerre mondiale. Ken Follet, dans ce roman, rend homage aux espionnes anglaises dont le rôle a été loin d'être négligeable et qui n'ont pas été honorées à la hauteur des risques qu'elles ont pris. L'opération montée par les 'Jackdaws" ou "réseau Corneille" en français est fictive mais crédible et palpitante et basée sur des opérations réelles, de même nature. Flick (Betty dans la traduction française) recrute un réseau de femmes aussi différentes les unes des autres que possible. Malgré leur manque de formation et d'expérience elles vont parvenir à leur objectif en dépit des efforts d'un officier Allemand particulièrement intelligent et maléfique.C'est après la lecture de "Jackdaws" que j'ai commencé ma période Ken Follet et que j'ai lu successivement "The Pillars of the Earth", "World without end", "A dangerous Fortune" et "The Third Twin". Si "The Pillars of the Earth" et "World without end" sont d'incontestables chefs-d'oeuvre, les autre romans cités ne sont pas tout à fait du même niveau mais ne m'ont vraiment pas déçue et m'ont offert des heures de plaisir et d'évasion.
